Olive Wood Rolling Pin

Story:

Rolling out dough is the calmest part of baking, all rhythm and flour and quiet. This rolling pin was carved for it by hand from olive wood, smooth the whole length of the barrel, its grain glowing warm and golden.

Pie crust on a Sunday afternoon, pasta sheets worked thinner and thinner across the counter, cookie dough with small helpers standing on chairs to reach. At nearly sixteen inches it rolls a full sheet without switching grip, and the oils the wood carries naturally keep it hygienic, batch after batch.

When the last tray is in the oven it leans by the flour jar, too handsome to bury in a drawer. Olive wood deepens with the years, richer each season of holidays and birthdays, until the pin is handed down with the pie recipe the family asks for.
